Guess what? A large and growing number of car enthusiasts are women.
Here in 2013, that should hardly come as a surprise to anyone, but just in case, let’s meet a few of the ladies in attendance at the Eighth Annual Spring Festival of LXs, held March 23, 2013, at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California.
A little background: The Festival is open to all vehicles in the Chrysler Corporation’s LX family of cars. So naturally, that includes 2005-on Dodge Chargers, 2008-on Challengers, 2005-2008 Magnum station wagons, and 2005-on Chrysler 300 models as well. The cars in the gathering can range from everyday commuters to the wildest customs you’ll ever see on the road—and yes, many of the owner-builders are female.
“There are a lot of women in this club,” says Challenger owner Rose Mayer. “It was one of the things that drew me to it. I think that women having powerful cars, muscle cars … I don’t think it’s a trend. It’s just that now we’re getting the cars we want to be driving every day.”
Chris Wood, shown above, calls herself the “Charger Chick.” And note: Her immaculately turned-out Dodge Charger matches her fedora. “Once I saw the purple, I was like, ‘I’ve got to have that color,’” she says. “Plum Crazy,” she adds with a grin.
