2011 Dodge Durango at its Jefferson North Assembly Plant

It’s a busy time for our Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. The facility has just started turning out the very first examples of the all-new 2011 Dodge Durango, and big names from both Dodge and the United Auto Workers stopped by to celebrate. Ralph Gilles, Dodge brand CEO, and UAW Vice President General Holiefield made the rounds as line workers put the finishing touches on the very first production Durango on December 14. You could have lit up a room with all the smiling faces.

We first showed off the 2011 Durango at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon earlier this year, and fans immediately responded to the three-row vehicle’s SUV-like 7,400 pound towing capacity and crossover-beating levels of comfort. Of course, we’re pretty fond of the brawny styling of the Durango, too. We still go a little weak-kneed when we see the Durango Citadel flex its muscles.

With production going full force, you can expect to see the Durango land in dealers later this month. Here’s to hoping we’ve all been good enough to warrant one of these under the tree this year.

I have the same shot with Ralph and myself kissing the new R/T Durango…guys, your doing a great job. The new technoligy, materials and American spirit of auto-making is back and better than ever.

Can’t wait to see the new D in the showroom. I love our 2007 Durango, but the 2011 is sooo much nicer. I just wish you gave it a better 4wd system (high and low).

After following the 2010, now the 2011 Durango for MONTHS, I am tired of waiting. While this was the vehicle we were pretty sure we wanted, not being able to access info from the Dodge website has been very frustrating. All we wanted was to see pictures of all of the vehicle, yes, including the full interior, and be able to build our own, as with the other Dodge vehicles, and we still cannot do so. After so long, we are now looking at the Ford Explorer.

    Hey Tricia,

Don’t give up just yet. We released information early to let everyone know about the Durango well in advance of when it would be available which is not till early 2011. If you can hold off till them, it will be worth it. Since it is not yet available, the build your own function of the website is not quite ready. I can however offer you a heap load of pics (including interior) and video. Check out pictures and video from the LA Auto Show here with a ton of good interior shots and information:

Steve: I couldn’t give up yet. Since my comment we have test drove the Durango, and fell in love yet again!! We are going this weekend to purchase, as long as the one we want is in stock. We still are puzzled over the V-6 vs Hemmi, though. With fuel prices going up, we are kind of afraid of the Hemmi, but both of us like the power that comes with the V-8. It is the only thing we are still undecided on. Maybe you can give your opinion on this, but please, quickly, Friday is almost here, and that is our car shopping day!! Can’t wait! Tricia

An impressive share! I have just forwarded this onto a coworker who had been conducting a little homework on this. And he actually ordered me dinner simply because I stumbled upon it for him… lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanx for spending time to discuss this topic here on your site.
