2011 Dodge Grand Caravan: Reborn

The Dodge Grand Caravan is the indisputable forefather of the minivan as we know it, and for 2011 it’s rising like a Phoenix from the ashes to usher in a new generation of cutting-edge people movers. The 3.3L, 3.8L, and the 4.0L V6 engine options offered in the previous model years have been sent to the glue factory, replaced by Dodge’s newest bomber: the 3.6L Pentastar V6. Mated to a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission, the new Pentastar punches in at 283-horsepower and 260 lb.-ft of torque and easily outpaces the celebrated 3.8L V6 of yore.

As a symbol of the revival under the redesigned hood, the 2011 Grand Caravan’s front fascia has been revised to feature Dodge’s new signature split crosshair grille and aggressively sculpted headlights. The assertive styling cues are continued by Dodge’s new “ring of fire” LED taillights and a ride height now skulking 12 millimeters closer to the ground. Inside, Dodge’s new design direction is even more apparent thanks to completely redesigned soft-to-the-touch surfaces and a bold, futuristic instrument cluster.

Safety, style, and sensationalism are the three core values we sought to integrate into the new Grand Caravan, and we think we were pretty damn successful. Check out the gallery below and judge for yourself.

Looks great. Any chance it will get AWD?

Also, the Chrysler Blog says there is a R/T “Man Van” model coming. What are the details on this? You guys would really make some buzz if you put a 370HP HEMI in it, just sayin’ :)

  • Van fan

PokerMunkee is right– let’s up the HP. I also have other suggestions, but they are patent protected, and presumably, Dodge is not interested in outside suggestions– should really rethink that. Anyway, you are moving in the right direction.

    Rumor is a small V-8 around 340 hp….according to some automotive blogs…..

AWD would be a great option again, but I dont think it works with the stow n go…

  • HEMIhead

I like it. I’ll be buying one this spring. Option to seat 8 would be awesome. Although I am getting
used to sitting on the floor in the second row. The interior is 100% improvement. I am holding
out with my 10 year old grand caravan because the 2010 interior was hideous looking. Also
wanted to wait for the Pentastar V6. I got to say though, my 3.3 V6 is more than ample and
never gave me 1 minute of trouble. Still runs like day one!

Nice work. I really like the updates. The interior is a huge improvement. If I needed to replace my Sienna this would be high on my list.

  • SUBLIME

This is ten times better. The grille used to make the Dodge look cheap and ugly, now it looks sporty and cool. The interior is just fantastic. Great stuff…these vans should sell a lot better not that they aren’t the leader now.

    Hemihead,
The 3.3′s were a very reliable engine…as was the 3.8…some years had head gasket problems..early 90′s 3.3 and some a/c compressor problems on the 3.8..BUT they were solid reliable engines 200,000 + miles without a rebuild was easily done ..The 3.5 was also a good engine but I dislike timingbelts (3.3 & 3.8 had a timing chain)….Glad to see the new Pentastar has a timing chain, hope its as or even more reliable than the old reliable 3.3 !!!

Looks like the new improvements so far on the Dodge’s look great !!
They were nice looking before, but were missing something….and the new little changes sure help alot and fix the issues !
Just wonder how the whole line of Mopar’s drive now with suspension improvements,as they were good before..must be a whole bunch better now …Good Job !

Looks great…. would like to trade the ’03 GC in for a ’11. But I am sure it will still be $40K for one of these (decently optioned)…. I could get a loaded Challenger R/T for that coin. But I still Love it! ;-) Would be interested to see what the GC R/T has to offer :-)
