Challenger Makes The Competition Green With Envy

By now we all agree the 2011 Challenger R/T has what every muscle car enthusiast wants. Great looks with retro styling, an awesome 5.7L HEMI® V8 power that delivers up to 376 horsepower that will shred tires at will, a performance –tuned dual exhaust system that emits wonderful sounds and a new second generation chassis architecture with improved suspension geometry that will plant all four wheels securely on terra firma. Our engineers have even made the Challenger’s interior better with redesigned seats and a new four-pod gauge cluster.

But the really cool news is this year’s “buzz” color. As you now, every year our designers and product planners create limited edition Challengers in wild colors. That’s when they head over to the Chrysler archives and dig through old dealer data books and catalogs in search of cool “High-Impact” colors from the early 1970s. In previous years we’ve seen “B5 Blue, Plum Crazy, HEMI Orange and others. For 2011, “Green With Envy” will make a splash on both the Challenger R/T Classic and SRT8 models. Now before you purists start yelling “foul”, this is a modern take on Sublime just as last year’s Furious Fuchsia was on Panther Pink.

“We’re using Green With Envy on the new 2011 Dodge Challengers to pay tribute to some of the coolest paint colors from our past, including the “Sublime” and “Green Go” Dodge Challengers from the 1970’s and more recently, the “Snakeskin Green” Vipers from 2008-2010,” said our President and CEO Ralph Gilles. “Not only will this exclusive heritage color remain unique to the Dodge brand, it adds another fresh and exciting element to our modern American muscle coupe.”

Looking to stand out among the crowd, the limited edition Green With Envy model features two A-line body-side stripes (just like on the ’71 R/T models) – either in matte black (standard) or white (optional). New five-spoke, cast-aluminum wheels are a modern interpretation of nostalgic Halibrand “Kidney Bean” style (you salt flat race fans and hot rod enthusiasts know what we’re talking about).

We know the Challenger’s great looks turns heads. Just be prepared for the competition to be spinning in their tracks when they get a glimpse of the new Green With Envy rolling past them at the local cruise nights and car shows this spring.

  • SUBLIME

RLD, this is a nice color and it will probably sell because it isn’t so loud, however, are you ever going to offer the Challenger in Sublime or are you waiting to release one with a shaker hood and a 426 HEMI option? Maybe even for the optional ‘cuda that I heard you are coming out with in a couple of years. That modern take of Sublime that you offered on the 2007 Charger is the wildest color that I have ever seen. It doesn’t get any better than that.

  • moparman

Somebody probably already told you guys, but, when you go to the dodge site and click on the green color, it only allows you to see it on the 392 challenger. I know if I was going to get one, it would be the classic like the one above. Is there a limited number being produced, IE, is it a special order thing?

    Just wondering.

  • David Kain

I’m digging the wheels.. All the new 2011 R/T Classic’s I have seen have the regular classic wheels. Is there a special code to order THESE wheels.?

  • Sarah Boyer

I like loud colors. Am thinking of getting one in plum crazy purple. Rather drive a grape than a lime lol

  • Glenn

I’m actually very disappointed Dodge isn’t allowing every color for whatever package you choose – from the V6 to the V8. I feel that they would sell a lot more cars if you could actually “build” the car you wanted. And not just colors, I’m sure there’s more to it than that.
For the green, I like the darker “Hunter Green”…this one is a tad too light

  • Doozle

I know I’m supposed to post about the color but I can’t help but notice the wheels on that Challenger. I covet them in the worst way. Will Dodge be offering them for sale this year?

  • NeonNites

If this is a modern take on sublime then the Dodge team is color blind. That Furious Fuchsia was a lipstick pink. We want loud colors, this “modern take” on high impact colors is lame. If it sells, so be it. All I know is there are still a lot of the Furious Fuchsias sitting on the lots. They are finally starting to sell with the $7000 and up discount rebates, but for that price you can now afford to have it repainted. Oh well, I still have another year or two before I have to buy a car so it really doesn’t matter much. I guess the color is OK because I would rather see a Challenger in any color than another Mustang or Camaro on the road.

  • moparnut

Although that color is not for me I can’t wait to see it out on the streets. The wheels how ever are a different story, love them! Hemi orange was my favorite to date.

  • Dennis Summers-Mr. Mopar

Thank You Mopar for a fantastic car (THE CHALLENGER). I do really like the color, Green with Envy. I was all excited for June 2011 to get here because my wife and I will be out of debt enough to buy our dream car (CHALLENGER SRT8). She had her heart set on a B5 Blue one. You can understand our disappointment to learn that B5 Blue, Tor Red, or Hemi Orange is not available for 2011. Dodge, you have a great car here. Why can’t you keep the great colors that we boomers grew up with? Like I said, I like the green car but she says “no way”. Hopefully Dodge will bring the other colors back later this year so we can get our dream car. We own an A4 Silver 69 RoadRunner and a Racing Green Metallic 68 Charger RT so we know what its like to have Mopar Blood pulsing through our veins

  • Jeff Stykes

It will be interesting to see how many people buy this color. I guess it is a good color for an everyday car. It probably looks better with road salt on it. Heck, at least it is a color that you do not normally see on the street. How many black, white, silver, red, gray, and beige cars do you see everyday? Too many. This is a color you can learn to love, especially if you pay 40 grand for it. I saw a Viper this color with black stripes and when the sun hit it, it looked pretty cool. Different is cool. I could see the Viper from a mile away. It caught my eye. I guess this is Dodge’s way of going green.

  • Jerry Norris

Awesome color on a great looking car, ugliest rims I’ve ever seen……

  • Jeff Stykes

Yes, the rims look like they are made of cast iron or plastic and they don’t have a lip all the way around. Bad copy of those limited edition 1969 Charger Daytona rims that came apart at high speed. Hopefully, you can have the option of buying the Crager mags they currently have on R/T Classics

  • peteMT

Very well done – particularly the wheels.

Will they be available with the color package on the R/T classic? I hope so!

I also dream of a V6, 6 speed manual Challenger with this color and these wheels – no stripe.

Look forward to seeing one of these in person.

  • 440

    Dont like the wheels…
I like the regular Challenger Classic wheels,it looks so much better..
Can you still buy Hemi Orange ?
I am on the fence about buying one…

  • Simon

You just upped the 2012 charger and made it mean. What you gonna do about the challenger? Fix the inside interior to make it look as great I love the fat steering wheel on the 2012 charger among other things. Nice idea about the cylnder drop on the charger for fuel consumption. Challenger needs some love.

  • fgh

Bring back the light blue from the RT classic from 09 that was a really bada$$ color

  • Doozle

Don’t get me wrong, I like the color green. Just not that particular shade of lime citrus. When it comes to green, I like a dark metallic green (polo green) such as the color Cadillac had up until about 10 years ago. A very classy color indeed. But it seems the powers that be want strong “primary” colors for the SRT8′s only, umm okay, I guess.
As for the wheels above, the only way y’all could make them look any better then they already do would be to chrome them. Come to think of it my stock 10 SRT8′s wheels would also look much better chromed as well. I’m going to have to look into that!

  • Mike K

I have the 2010 Deep Water Blue, Rallye perfect color and really turns heads!

  • Big O

White with black racing strips. Just like mine.

  • peteMT

On the subject of colors… B5 blue should *always* be available for the Challenger.

Will the Challenger get colored leather seats and door inserts like the Charger soon?

  • alex

I like the coloor but i don’t like the limited numbers

  • Ryan

This color isn’t as high impact as Sublime was. The wheels to me seem much closer to a modern spin off of the “Recall” wheel from around 1967-69. The best colors offered on the new Challenger were B5 Blue and Plum Crazy

  • Big O

I love my new car. It is white with black racing srips. Bad to the bone. Added some lads on the front grill and some inside going up the middle console. Came out freat. Not too much eather.

  • IndyRider

As much as I hammered Dodge about doing a green car in 2009-2010, I have to say I like my PC SRT better than the green model being offered. I have to see one in person to really make a final decision.

Kudos to Dodge for offering green, just not sure you’re going to see me in one at this point. Bring one to the Dodge exhibit at LVMS in a few weeks!

  • Randy

Have Waited 8 months to get a 392 in My favorite Dodge Color..Hemi Orange, but it is not available.I really like Burnt Orange, but Toxic Orange is just too brown looking. I will wait untill H.O. is available again. Great car,…. can’t wait untill they put a supercharger on that 392!

  • GrnWthNV

I ordered mine, delivery in April, hopefully in time for the SRT Experience in Fontana, CA.

  • GrnWthNV

    Oh, I ordered the SRT8 392

  • prowler

Well I’ve got my GWE SRT ordered and I think this color blows away 70′s sublime. And I’m a sublime lover on the 70 Challenger and Cuda. BUT. This is not 1970 and I’m glad Dodge is not bent on the exact same shades. I’ve seen a couple of Challengers that were stripped to the metal and repainted in Sublime. They don’t quite come accross the same as the 70 models. They had chrome bumpers and other various trim that broke up the color. The new Challenger is more unitized and I think these different shades are right for the times with out being too retro.

  • frontyardrestoguy

just ordered the srt8 in green with envy last week. adjust your monitors folks this color is hot as hell. in fact take a trip to your local paint supplier and have them pull up the paint chip. it looks nothing like the picture above. in fact go to the dodge site and you will get a much better idea. just got rid of my first edition #0074 hemi orange challenger to make room.

  • PlumKrz70

Love the wheels too! I’m glad to see Dodge trying to generate some new Hi Impact colors. Just make sure to continue to offer the originals for us purists.

  • B5 Blue Classic

Not a bad color, I’ll have to see it in person. Last Fall, once I realized B5 Blue was going away, I was too late to order a Challenger. I found my 2010 RT Classic 6sp at a dealer 250 miles away. It is exactly like I would have ordered from the factory. After many years of GM muscle cars, including 4 Camaros, this is my favorite car of all time. The car and I will grow old together.

  • gasser

I was waiting for the GWE to show up along with the wife. When we saw the color she said NO, she wasn’t driving a car the color of split pea soup. I want to see one in person. Where is the sublime or are u waiting for everyone to buy one of these then release so u can sell more cars and have more tradeins. I’ll keep my 09 HO SRT for now and wait and see what else they come out with.

  • http://jameseo.com JameSEO

Dodge is crazy for the colors they picked. They should have researched their books to see that almost any other group of colors would be better than the ones they have now. I’ve been waiting for the 2011′s to come out. The colors weren’t worth the wait, at all. As much as I love the Challenger, I really hope I don’t end up in a ugly color one.

  • http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3089456 Paladin06

Love the color but those wheels…

  • Russ Louthian

My ’09 R/T has been Sublime since January of 2010, and the only one on the road here in California. Can’t wait to see what the factory has created.

  • SUBLIME

Russ, your car is awesome. The paint color (sublime) is just fabulous on that car. Great job!

  • JOHN

I HAVE BEEN WAITING SO ,SO LONG FOR THIS ONE ! I HAVE THE CASH , I’V BEEN SAVING UP SINCE THEY STARTED MAKING THEM AGAIN. I HOPE THE COLOR IS CLOSE TO SUBLIME. PLEASE DODGE , DON’T BLOW THIS !
IN SOME PHOTOS THE COLOR LOOKS PEA GREEN ? GUESS I’LL HAVE TO SEE FOR MYSELF !

  • peteMT

And you know what else would be amazing?

If you offered the R/T in the same dark olive green as the ’68 R/T you have in the slideshow on the right side of the web page. Picture 2.

Olive green with olive green leather seats and door panel inserts.

RLD, do you find it interesting that the color schemes are such hot topics of discussion?

  • Glenn

Dodge needs to get their act together and offer more colors to everyone – whether they’re buying the SE or the SRT8. Right now they only have, what, 6? colors? What separates this from the Mustang or Camaro? Isn’t this car their flagship model? I’m not buying one until they get they figure it out.

  • JOHN

DODGE SHOULD HAVE A TALK WITH THE DEALERSHIPS ! THEY AREN’T VERY HELPFULL !
IT’S AS IF I SHOULD HAND OVER 40 GRAND AND JUST TAKE WHAT THEY GIVE ME ?
SORRY IF I ASK TO MANY QUESTIONS ! THEY JUST DON’T GET IT ! NOT EVERYONE WANTS A FULLY LOADED SRT8 , SOME OF US DON’T HAVE THE CASH AND CAN ONLY GET AN RT ,
FUNNY , I NEVER THOUGHT I’D SEE THE DAY WHEN I WAS WILLING TO PAY 38 GRAND AND GET TREATED LIKE DIRT !
GUESS THEY SELL TONS OF CARS EVERY DAY ?
WONDER HOW NICE THEY ARE OVER AT FORD ?

  • Mike

I hope the wheels can be deleted in favor of the Heritage wheels that are standard on the Classic models. I would hate not to purchase the car because of the wheels. Everyone has their likes and you should account for that if this is going to be a Classic trim level.

  • http://www.clfmqyjqtjir.edu/ Karl Hogenson

I agree this is a mighty thoughtfully written story, thank you for sharing this!

  • Mr. Mopar

I am so disappointed, Tried to buy an SRT Challenger in 08 and couldn’t find a dealer who would sell one at sticker price. My wife and I decided that we would buy a GWE SRT and went to order one two weeks ago. My dealer told me that Green With Envy was no longer available. Why Dodge Boyz? didn’t you let the public know when the cut off date would be. I guess that it’s not meant for us to have a Challenger.    :0(

  • rob

Dude, Buy one! Who gives a s#$& about color? This car looks way cooler than any Obama or Ford  product.I love my wifes 5.7 6sp with the shaker hood ,it’s cheeper than a round of golf and a hell of a lot funner.LET FREEDOM REV!!!

  • JOHN

GOT THE CALL , A GREEN CHALLENGER JUST CAME IN !!! SHOT DOWN TO THE DEALERSHIP ….. FIRST MY SALESMAN WAS MISSING ?
