Dodge Viper ACR Blazes the “Ring”

Okay, we know this has been all over the blogosphere and it may be old news to some of you, but for others– crank up the speakers on your computer. We find the raspy tone of a V10 tearing it up on a world famous race course very therapeutic and just the thing to get through the middle of the work week.  Speaking of world famous race courses, here’s the low down.

If there’s one track in the world that automakers want to set records, it’s the infamous Nurburgring in Germany. Nestled in the majestic Eifel Mountains, on any given day, you’ll see everything from exotics to everyday passenger cars making laps on the 12.9 mile North Loop of the “Ring”

A fast time means bragging rights along with endless marketing opportunities to promote your supercar or grocery getter. On September 14, a handful of SRT engineers and technicians along with the Viper Club of America and the Tomball Dodge’s “ViperExchange” headed across the pond to the “Ring.” Armed with basically a stock street-legal 2010 Viper SRT10 ACR, they had one goal, knock the Chevy ZR1 Corvette and Lexus LFA off the pole.  Veteran GT driver Dominik Farnbacher piloted the 600-horsepower Viper to a blistering 7:12.13 time and reclaimed the Production Car Lap Record. Strap on your helmet and buckle up and you can ride shotgun on the historic run by checking out the video below.

Man that is fast.  Congrats to the team for placing the Dodge Viper ACR back where it should be.  The fastest non exotic production car in the world.  And using stock tires.  Seven seconds faster than the Vette on optional race tires.  Tip of the hat to the team.
