Few badges inspire as much lore as “HEMI®” V8. From its days stuffed inside a Dodge Coronet cruising Main Street in the glory days of the muscle car, the HEMI engine has thrilled generations with its power, torque and signature orange paint. But even though a HEMI engine of some form has been in production since the early ‘50s, its popularity didn’t really take off until 1964, when the 426 was unveiled.

A decade after catching Dodge Fever, I bought this numbers-matching 1968 HEMI® V8 Charger R/T (XS29J8B119772) in 1987. It would be the first of three Dodge HEMI engine cars I’ve owned (so far).

One of the nation’s premier gatherings of classic and modern Dodge cars and trucks is the Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals. Held each summer for more than twenty years at the spacious outdoor Carlisle fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, this year’s event took place on July 10, 11 and 12th under sunny skies.
