The 7th Annual Spring Festival of LXs

It’s almost that time of year again.  In one month, flowers will be blooming, birds chirping, and… HEMIs roaring?

As the 7th Annual Spring Festival of LXs (“Spring Fest”, colloquially) approaches, the highways of North America will be graced with caravans of Dodge Challengers, Chargers, Magnums, and Chrysler 300s.  It’s like Christmastime for the LX community, and though March 24th is the big day, associated events will fill the entire weekend leading up to this year’s event at the Orange County Great Park.  Southern California is expected to see upwards of 1000 LX vehicles as owners from as far away as Sweden gear up for the largest gathering of its kind in the world.

What began as four-car meet in 2004 has grown exponentially. We detailed Spring Fest’s humble beginnings before last year’s event, and attendance continues to grow by leaps and bounds.

John Fortuno, one of the event’s founders, marveled at Spring Fest’s organic growth, “We don’t advertise in magazines or dealerships.  The growth of Spring Fest has been a direct result of the LX Forums, and the social sphere.”

Evidence of the organic growth John mentioned is the fact that 285 of the nearly 800 currently registered will be attending for the first time.  Spring Fest 7 has its own Facebook page, and a Twitter search for #SF7 reveals a stream of chatter across the Twitterverse mentioning everything from general excitement to event statistics.  The event’s founding club, SoCal LX offers detailed minutiae regarding attendance on their website, where registrant information is broken down by location, vehicle model, color, and more.

This year, in addition to showing off their own vehicles, chatting with like-minded enthusiasts and browsing the vendor tents, attendees will also have the opportunity to burn a little rubber behind the wheel of one of the 470 horsepower SRT8 vehicles that will be present.

As with last year, we’ll be there in full-force.  The big question is, will you?  To register, click here.

I see Penske has dropped Dodge for next season.  It looks like the new 2013 NASCAR Dodge Charger was for nothing.  If you cannot win at it then you might as well drop out.  Put your money in to NHRA drag racing where you have been winning championships.

Penske had a good run with Dodge last season. 5 wins with only 3 cars on the track and ford with 7 wins with a lot more cars. Plus the 2010 Nationwide Championship. To be honest, I could care less about Penske, but losing Brad Keselowski, who’s whole family lived “Mopar” is sad and stupid. If Dodge is going to stay in Nascar with only those few start and park teams, well then they might as well leave! Dodge needs a big league team to be a player in Nascar, and that’s what they should be focusing on, or completely get out of it. The Dodge fan has been duped again! Show me any loyal Dodge drivers?
