The King Gets Crowned with Hall of Fame Honors

“The King” Richard Petty was named to the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame this past Tuesday along with Dale Earnhardt, Bill France Sr., Bill France, Jr. and Junior Johnson.  Petty goes into the Hall of Fame with the most career victories (200), most poles (123) and tied with the most championships (7).

Congratulations Richard!

Congrats, Richard you deserve it. I am sorry Mopar is pulling the plug on you. Maybe something will change in a year.

I really think Gillette called the shot on the ford/toyota thing, the only thing that petty really has involved is his name and the famous #43 if Petty is not careful Gillette will ruin his famous name. if Petty was really involved and in charge of RPM he would have never announced that they would be leaving dodge until the season end? that way Kahne could really have had a chance to run for the championship. as soon as the announcement was made most all of the brains of the engine department walked out. as we all know Petty has not won a single cup race since going back to dodge in 2000 under the \\\\\\\”petty enterprise\\\\\\\” banner as far as i know? i would not be surprised if petty is even involved with a car next year, i would go out this year while being involved having a car in the chase. if not i think Gillette is going to make a laughing stock out of Petty, if its not already happened? in a few years know one will remember or care who Gillette was! the new owner will be some kinda \\\\\\\”REAL KING\\\\\\\” across the pond with a name (50) letters long driving a toyota! thats my take on it.

I didn’t recognize the King without his signature sun glasses.

I agree with “news flash” on this one. There’s no way a guy like the King would ever be stupid enough to pull a stunt like that! Its that money grubbing Gillette. He should go back to selling razors. Maybe he can have the “iron Sheik” adverstise as the “Sheik Razor”.
I was following Nascar for a couple of years
to support Dodge, and even actually made it to a race. Kasey gets a win and locks himself in the chase one weekend, the next weekend Bozo Gillette announces they are going with F*@d next year. What kind of business man is this clown? Who would jeopardize a championship shot with all the dirt and controversy he has caused. Kasey and Petty have been thrown to the wolves for sure on this. Anyway, after all that I never watched a chase race and have totally boycotted Nascircus at my house.
Dodge don’t need an association with a razor salesman.
Good luck Kasey and hope you find a new ride for 2011 (hopefully 2010), as for the King, get out now before he makes you the “laughing stock” car driver.

I’m just glad he’s still around after all these years. He’s a great racer and a heck on a nice guy too, from what I am told, I’ve never met him.

When I was a kid I had a Richard Petty vs Cale Yarboro tyco race car set. Watched many a race with my dad, both of us rooting for Petty. After he retired, Dad switched to rooting for Dale, and after he died, Dad pretty much stopped watching.
