The 2016 Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat models, the fastest, most powerful muscle cars to ever run the track*, got their stripes the old-fashioned way: with 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Now they finally get to wear them. 
 

This January dealers began taking orders for SRT Hellcat-exclusive dual full-length carbon-fiber pattern stripes. Few badges inspire as much lore as “HEMI®” V8. From its days stuffed inside a Dodge Coronet cruising Main Street in the glory days of the muscle car, the HEMI engine has thrilled generations with its power, torque and signature orange paint. But even though a HEMI engine of some form has been in production since the early ‘50s, its popularity didn’t really take off until 1964, when the 426 was unveiled.

Dodge Material – What Made Me a Dodge Boy?

A decade after catching Dodge Fever, I bought this numbers-matching 1968 HEMI® V8 Charger R/T (XS29J8B119772) in 1987. It would be the first of three Dodge HEMI engine cars I’ve owned (so far). 

I was about 12 years old when I became Dodge Material (as the classic magazine ads of the ‘60s called Dodge owners). Though my (now) 51-year-old “neck top computer” has stored — and forgotten — volumes of information in the four decades since, I distinctly recall two hugely influential fan-making Dodge events as if they happened last week….
