HEMI Orange Challenger and Super Track Pak Now Available

You’ve clamored for it, so we acted. Here’s another color update for all you Challenger fans: Classic HEMI Orange paint is now available again for order on the R/T and SRT8 Challengers — and for R/T Classic Models, an added option of white dual wide side stripes.

But Challenger isn’t just about bringing back our best classic colors, it’s also about performance. So we’ve also brought back the Super Track Pak from the 1970s, adding in performance steering and brakes, three-season Goodyear F1 Tires, load-leveling shocks, and full-off ESP — on the five-speed automatic as well as the six-speed manual transmission. The end result, for anyone not familiar with the Super Track Pak: Your Challenger will now get around the track even quicker. Who can argue with that?

Mark, thank you and RLD for getting the STP added to my Challenger. This is truly an example of outstanding customer service. The Challenger is my 2nd LX platform car and I’m thinking the next generation Charger will be my 3rd. Mopar rules!

RLD and Mr. Mallie, I would also like to be included with purple haze and Jon W. to get the STP option on my ordered plum crazy Challenger. I posted Dec 17 with my vin info asking to be included for that option. I am a lifetime Mopar owner and fanatic. I regularly read (seldom post) RLD. Is there a chance I too can get a Merry Christmas from Dodge. Thank You and Merry Christmas.

Can we get an exact list of items that are included with the Super Track Pak – actually two lists, one for the AutoStick and one for the 6 speed?

Many online Challenger sites have differing, or vague descriptions. Even the Dodge site has vague descriptions – only saying High Performance Suspension, rather than listing the heavier anti-sway bar, Nivomat rear shocks, etc.; and Heavy Duty Brakes, rather than saying higher quality ceramic brake pads.

Clicking on the “Rear wheel drive” tab under the picture here http://www.dodge.com/en/2010/challenger/performance/handling/ it says the Sure-Grip differential is offered on the R/T with 3.06 ratio with the AutoStick transmission. Is the Sure-Grip part of the STP on the R/T with the AutoStick? Or is that an error, and only available with the 6 speed?

By the way, I have an R/T Classic with AutoStick and STP ordered, so I am very interested in the answers 🙂

I’m a bit disappointed they brought HO back myself. I purchased an 09′ HO SRT8 back in July under the impression that Dodge was discontinuing the color, making it a little more valuable down the road. Is HO here to stay or is it just for one more year?

    Posted February 28, 2010 at 9:48 pm | Permalink

Shawgz, they can only mix so many colors of paint at a time so Hemi Orange is here to stay. Evidently they lost the formula for sublime so Hemi Orange will have to fill in. After three years of the color, I would assume everyone who wanted a Challenger in that color has one, however, I may be wrong. I really think they should offer all of the colors all of the time so when your car finally breaks down and you need to purchase a new one, the color is available. This offering a color for only a few months every five years or so is crazy and this is what led them to their takeover from Fiat. All of the decisions must be intentional so they can run Dodge into the ground once and for all so Fiat can take over their dealership network. This is the only explanation I can see for such poor business practices. Hopefully, I am very wrong and Dodge will prove me wrong this year. Please, Dodge prove me wrong! I want to purchase a sublime challenger before the Mayan end of the world comes in 2012 like your commercial so boldly states.

I would love to see RLD post a blog on the process behind the scenes in producing cars. I cannot figure out the marketing mindset on the color choices nor how they are offered.

Nice colors, just not enough of them, limited order window, and in some cases no news on the order window except from third hand sources. If FF dead?

    Posted March 27, 2010 at 9:39 pm | Permalink

IndyRider, I don’t know what got into me, but I was out of town and went to the local Dodge dealer and they had four plum crazy Challengers sitting on the lot. One SRT8, and three R/T Classics. Two of the Classics were cars that were ordered so he couldn’t sell them. At any rate, I opened the door and the interior was black (dark slate gray) with purple stitching (typical Classic interior). Then I get behind the wheel and the gauges and the dash actually looked good. The dash looks awful in the photos but when you are sitting in the seat everything looks cool. The seat adjusts to fit your back perfectly, then the sales person throws me the keys and says, “take it for a spin” and we are gone. Every car that went by us, all the drivers turned their heads, and one almost got in an accident. Girls are waving and giving us the thumbs us. Now I don’t know if the salesman paid all these people to do this but it was something else. The purple is a chick magnet. Then the sun comes out and the dark purple sparkles like a flashback of a plum crazy hemi ‘cuda from the 70s. We get on the expressway and I barely press the gas pedal down and we are over 80 miles an hour. The salesman was wondering if I was going to kidnap him so we headed back to the dealer. I get out of the car to try out the SRT8 (not that I really need all that horsepower) and the guy chatting with the other saleman bought it. In a moment of weakness and Spring just around the corner, I asked the guy if they were honoring the $2,000 Mopar Accessory bonus cash (clever marketing idea by Dodge to keep the money in house) and he said well I don’t know since that is the last plum crazy Challenger left. Then I told him that I was out of town and drove a long way so he honored the promotion and I am driving the wildest car to hit the streets. I thought I would never say this, but until you drive a Challenger you do not know what you are missing. Young and old people alike stare at the car and it is a blast to drive. It looks so good sitting in the driveway compared to the big old truck that I traded in that I can’t believe it. Pictures do NOT do the Challenger justice and that is why they probably don’t have any current brochures on the car. You just have to get behind the wheel and drive it. By the way, it looks like it is pretty good on gas because I went over 120 miles today and it only used a quarter of a tank. Maybe that MDS really does work. Anyhow, I will have eat my words and have to thank the Dodge Boys for making a great car and if SUBLIME is ever offered, I will just have to buy another Challenger and park that one in the garage or maybe the living room for that matter. THANK YOU DODGE AND MAY THE REST OF THE LOYAL MOPAR FANS GO OUT AND TEST DRIVE A CHALLENGER. YOU WILL BE HOOKED and short of cash. You only live once so what the heck. Even my wife liked the car and asked when she could drive it. We have been married for 20 years and I have never let her drive one of my cars so I told her she could drive it when I buy a sublime Challenger. And instead of her getting mad like she usually does, she asked me if that meant that she really could have the car if I bought another one? Now she can’t wait until a sublime Challenger is available. I have to say that these cars look great in person and they will make you feel 20 years younger. Maybe they should market these cars as a youth drug. At any rate IndyRider, go out and test drive a Challenger and make sure you bring your check book.

  • Posted March 28, 2010 at 12:16 pm | Permalink

Sublime, congrats on your purchase. actually I was lucky enough to attend the LVMS NASCAR race, and got to do the skid pad deal in an SRT8. Believe me, I’m sold on buying one. We did enough donuts, and crazy things I will never do on the streets.

Plum Crazy is cool, but I’ve yet to find one at a California dealer without the sunroof, and automatic tranny. This is my potential plan B, if the FFSRT8 is not available. However, I am now leaning back towards the group five challenger, since I can get my green car now. Yes it will cost more money, but as you stated, I’m sitting here with no challenger, and dying to buy one.

Saw a hemi orange one on the highway yesterday, so its getting painful. I spoke with my dealer on Saturday, he knows the score. I’m hoping FF opens up next week, so I too can post a positive purchase experience here. RLD and Mark Mallie, lets open the order window on FF!

Once again enjoy the ride, its a cool one!

    Posted March 28, 2010 at 8:44 pm | Permalink

HEMIhead and IndyRider, thanks…I waxed the car today and ran a few errands and almost caused a few more accidents. We don’t have any purple cars in town yet so it is getting the looks. Heck, we don’t have that many Challengers in town, period. For a town of over 100,000 you rarely see a Challenger. I think I finally understand Dodges marketing philosophy in that if you keep the prices up and don’t produce too many than you can always get full sticker price for them. I think the Challenger is a niche car and there are only so many people who will buy them in the first place so just make a few and periodically release special editions and colors so the customer doesn’t have a choice but to pay full retail. It may be good for them but bad for us. I think they have come to the conclusion that Dodge will never by a Ford or Chevy in that they will never sell millions of cars so why bother. I bought my Classic because it was the first one that I saw with no options (35,140 although I think they come pretty well equipped anyhow) which is great because I was able to purchase all the Mopar accessories and make it a 37,000 car. No nav, no moonroof to leak in a few years, and no other options that I will probably use only once in my life. You can get all the other stuff put in at a car alarm/electronics place for a forth the price anyhow. These were the only ones I have seen in Texas at that price so I grabbed one while I could. They will probably go up another couple of grand next year. The purple stitching on the seats is a nice touch. Good luck on your quest for the FF, hopefully Mark Mallie can give you an answer already. They have stopped making the B5s and yellow ones so they should be able to handle the Fuchsia by now. Its worth the wait so hang in there. I know I really wanted the sublime but this purple is growing on me, especially when the sun hits it. The metalflake really pops. Take care!

Sorry folks….so disappointed with the car, had it now for just over 2 weeks , and I want to sell it…my dealer told me I got the 3.73 axle ratio , when in fact that is only available on the standard 6 speed, dunno why doge would do that? Since this was a factory order my dealer could of contacted their rep and had that done for me …. In the Automatic this car feels like driving a very expensive mini van 🙁

I found the hard way that Doge has very poor customer satisfaction from their call centers or dealers once you bought the car…SELLING IT 🙁

Alexander, Dodge does not care and their dealers don’t car either. If you look at this blog there are lots of great questions being asked and all you get is silence. Thats a bunch of Horse$hit and you should be able to get the car you want not the one Dodge gives you for the money you spent. It’s the same old story, big business screws joe good guy and they don’t care and they wont make it right. You are not the first and you won’t be the last that Dodge pulls this kind of crap on. I’m sorry that this has happened and I’ll be the only one who says that as the Boys are to stuck on themselves to do the right thing. Hey Dodge this is not the way you do business you jerkoffs. Fix this guys car and maybe he’ll stay with your brand but I dought it. Tracy

    Posted May 6, 2010 at 6:04 pm | Permalink

Tracy, maybe you should keep your vitriol to yourself. You might want to educate yourself before you speak. Any educated Dodge salesperson knows that the 3.92 ratio rear axle is part of the track pack option available only with the six speed manual. Dodge did nothing wrong, and it is unfortunate that Alexander found an order taker, as opposed to a knowledgeable salesperson. I take issue with your blanket statement that Dodge, and their dealers dont care about their customers. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I have had plenty of experiences to back that up. In addition to that I have noticed that Dodge , and RLD do in fact respond to CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms and problems posted on this blog, they did for me personally. I dont think you can truly expect them to respond to some of the blather you put forth. Perhaps you should start your own car company since you are all knowing…oh , and by the way I was wondering if you were asked to intercede (rudely I might add ) on Alexander’s issue ? or did you decide you are some sort of superhero on your own ? By the way what brand of automobile do you own/drive, and when was the last time you visited a Dodge dealer to purchase or service your vehicle.

Went to a dealer two weeks ago and had a very good talk with him. I drive Chevys and Fords but can look at the new Challenger and know I want to own one some day. Maybe YOU should look around and see just how many zero responces there are. As for being rude I was hoping for a responce from the Boys, instead I got you and I could care less what you say about my statements, the guy got screwed and NO ONE from Dodge wants or is helping this guy out. I jump in with my two cents worth all the time and you are the first to get all pissy about it. I guess you missed the one where I helped another blogger find his car on a Wenesday and he bought it on that Saturday. Who did you help out on here in the last month. Thanks for sticking up for me Tracy 🙂

@ Actually RUMBLEBEE I am well a ware of the 3.91:1 on the 20′ wheels and the 3.73:1 on the 18″ wheels with the 6 speed but the dealer assured me that their rep was contacted since this was a factory order!!! and that my car would come with 3.73:1 ( I was a Moran for not getting it in writing ) once I got the car and saw the build sheet I freaked out when I saw the 3.06:1 rear ratio … and my dealer read to me the brochure and told me the car does not come with that sorry… have a nice day….
I contacted Doge and they wont do a thing as Tracy stated they do not care at all… the more I begged the pathetically I got….. the funnier it is for them to hear me unhappy …. They claim that this is a dealer “sales” issue and that they could do nothing since they are independently owned… Sorry … I asked for a resolution since my nice dealer has offered me the 3.91:1 gear from doge installed at my cost of $5000.00 or the 3.73:1 for my cost of 3000.00 and in either case I void and null my new car 5 year 100,000 KM warranty….

I asked If they could send the dealer the gears and pay for the install and therefore honor my new car warranty… they said that they technically could but wont

Again the more I begged the funnier it got for them… they lost a customer and since I drive the Orange with white stripes car and at least 10 or more people a day ask me about it I tell them all not to buy this! They lost alot more customers over this They done me wrong! and could fix this but wont…
Also since I bought the car in Canada it came up to $52,000.00 out the door and 2 weeks later it is worth $35,000.00 ( it is up for sale ) Doge cars are a bad investment….

I assure you when Doge Chrysler will go for the Government assistance for the Automotive bail out ….I WILL BE THERE ” they are going to hear ” you have a sales issue …SORRY ”

In these hard economic times when people do not buy muscle cars this was a poor decision on their part to do to me….

All they would have had to do was send the 3.73:1 gear ratio that is available for my 2010 R/T to my dealership and install it for me …BUT THEY WONT

    Posted May 6, 2010 at 7:15 pm | Permalink

Tracy, you can dish it , but not take it……and I have read your 2 cents, and find its really worth less than zero…..as far as helping Indy Rider find a car….kudos… but Im not surprised that you own and drive Chevys and Fords, it explains a lot …….and a zero response should be expected for some of the nonsense you write…..

@ Flames T I can assure you I do not smoke any thing …. when you drive high horse power cars you just know this is like a mini van …. come talk to me after you drove a few cars OK? this challenger is a disgrace to mopar racing …. I owned a few high performance cars…. MY first car ever was … you guess it … a 1/4 mile hot rod

I am negotiating selling my ride today in favor of a mustang Shellby GT 500 ( 540 BHP stock under rated too ) for less than the srt8

By the way when you by a mopar performance cold air intake it voids your new car warranty …. If you buy from an SVT ford dealer ship …. they send your car to a performance shop and cover you under the new car warranty….

my mistake in buying this car cost me $20,000.00 depreciation loss …. I will not forgive doge for not helping me and treating their customer like trash!!! All over something they could of fixed BUT WONT because the are cheap …. this is not over by far

    Posted May 6, 2010 at 7:32 pm | Permalink

Alexander, I feel really terrible that you got such a crappy deal from a really crappy dealer, but Dodge is correct in that it is a dealer sales issue. As far as the dealer telling you he contacted the rep, thats another BS story you were told, the reps dont have any control over the factory packages. Too bad the dealer didnt step up and cover HIS mistake. Sounds like Dodge should have cut him when they had the chance !!!! Too bad Dodge allows dealers like this to tarnish their reputation….Too bad you blame them for a dealers misrepresentation, and mostly too bad you got a bad deal from a crappy dealer !

@ Flames T. you ask about the car feeling like a mini van??? Doge put MDS in the 2010 challengers R/T V8( Multi displacement System ) this makes the car run on four cylinders when not in full throttle …that belongs on a mini van not on a muscle car …. People like me that buy these cars what raw power aggressive vehicle and loud …. too bad that I wasted my money on a a cat back system for this mini van that I will not use now….

P.S when I complained to the dealer about the gears … In front of a full service department with family people he asked me If I was looking to drag race and drive fast on the streets so I wont ask for the gears…. WRONG THING TO SAY….the brochure states if “you want to drive a 1/4 mile at a time… ”

@ RUMBLEBEE I do blame Doge because they can intervene and make it right but WONT …. It would cost then nothing to do right by me… in any case the dealer represents Doge … my dealer lied but he does not go home and make the car for me in his back yard … he represents Doge and sells their product….

when the Auto makers asked for a bail out since cars sales are bad and they turn around and say it is a sales issue then this kind of behavior should be brought to our governments …If we give you a bail out you will still do what you want and this attitude is why they are in need of a bail out…. like I said feeling sorry for me wont put 3.73:1 gears in my car …. I am going to take this further with my government and have this addressed for the next automotive bail out …. they are going to hear ” Sorry you have a sales issue” next time they want tax payers money …close down for all I car next time…

I have not seen Doge lift a finger to help… they have my vin number and complaint in Canada and the US side and nothing ….

Ask the tax payers for bail out money …. LOL

Alexander got screwed and YOU stick up for Dodge and their none support, can’t wait tell it happens to you. They’ve lost this guy as a customer, or don’t you understand that. He’ll tell every person he meets to not buy Dodge. Small things like this can cost a lot over the long haul. Answer me this Why wouldn’t Dodge want to know where I used to work so they could start selling trucks and vans to this place at a rate of 500.000-1,000.000.00 Dollars per year.

@Tracy LOL I wish … I am taking a $20,000.00 Loss on this thing… I just do not want to drive it… All over 3.73:41 Gears ( Part cost $1725.00 + labor + tax ) to bad I already spend the money getting a cat back system for it … it is actually getting shipped out of California 🙂 ( I already pre paid) the tax here is %13 sales tax so I loss about $5000.00 non refundable right there …..

Well if any Auto workers are reading this and you wonder why you need the economic bail out …this is why…. I vowed 8 years not to buy another new car and I was dumb enough to do it again …. if you people loss your jobs , I am going to tell you the same thing Doge told me – ” you have a sales issue sorry”
The dealer told me that I would get the 3.7.3:1 gears in the car , even when I saw the window sticker that was shipped after my factory order ..my dealer told me that the gears are probably in the car and not listed !unfortunately now I now that they only come in the 6 speed manual … the dealer now says sorry that is the way the car comes so to bad! that was the big sales point for me other wise I would not have bought it … As Tracy pointed out Doge states that they could technically fix the problem but it is not their policy..and the dealer hides behind their brochure now …. I offered to put them in at my cost unfortunately it voids my 5 year 100,000.00 KM warranty to bad for me…..

For all you auto workers that need a bail out I hope you remember guys like me that got screwed , you need to really take people not being new cars a gain to your dealers, Sorry if you lost your jobs but when a guy like me supported the automotive industry and got slapped in the face for buying a $52,000.00 car from you , well to bad if you loss your jobs … you had that coming 🙂

To drop 20k in just a month thats a pretty big hit to take. Think about it before you dump it. I know every time you go to drive it you’ll feel like they won, but don’t you were happy to get it and so drive the darn thing. I’d rather lose 20k in a years time then a months time. It’s your call but think it over and don’t act to fast. Tracy

I got mad a few days after I purchased my car because on April 1st the dealer started giving $2,300 rebates on the Challenger, now they are up to $3,800 and $4,500 on the SRTs. That is part of life because the cars get older throughout the year when it gets closer to next year’s model release. I receive compliments on my car everywhere I go so just don’t worry about it. People lose that much money in the casinos everyday, at least you still have something to show for it. If I waited too long to buy a Challenger then everyone would have one and I wouldn’t get all the compliments. Isn’t it worth the extra two grand to have a head turner? Next year the Sublime 6.4 liter (392 HEMI) will arrive packing almost 500+ horsepower so you can trade it in then if you really want to go fast. The dealers have always hurt Dodge because everyone I know who switched to another make said that the dealer would never warranty the problem. Just keep shopping around for the right dealer. At any rate, I love my Plum Crazy Classic R/T and it is fast enough. If you really want to go fast, buy an old Dodge Dart or Demon, subframe it and then put a 2000 horsepower Keith Black Hemi in it. Just enjoy the car, life it too short to be upset all of the time. Your gas mileage is not nearly as good with those gears so don’t worry about it. Remember, Dodge is going to surprise us with something really special next year so have fun with this Challenger and save some money for next year and buy another one at another dealer you can trust. That exhaust system will really wake up the motor.

I was on the phone yesterday with Chrysler’s Canadian customers service in tears , begging for the gear… I told them I was willing to drive to the Brampton plant to have the gears put in there!!! I heard some call me a loser in the back ground , and told me they had to terminate my call, Sorry …. When I bought the car I asked for the smokers package ( yes Cancer did not teach me a lesson the first time LOL) the dealer told me that there was not one and agreed to get me a lighter ( that I put in writing) a few days when I got home I looked at the lighter and the S.O.B gave me an old lighter probably of my own jeep grand Cherokee that he bought off me for yes $25.00… I went to the parts department and found out that there was one he bought it out of shame ($24.95 )LOL

….. By the way I had to loan ( he drove with me to the gas station and I debited him some gas and a pack of smokes) my dealer $20.00 for gas money to get home one day since he claimed that he did not have his bank card LOL LOL LOL … I felt bad for the S.O.B and told him don’t worry about it… S.O.B told me a sad story about 3 kids he has at home LOL LOL LOL

Hey Brampton assembly workers this is why you loss your jobs …;)

@SUBLIME I am not made of money to buy a new car every year!!! I want this fixed!!! I was promised a 3.73:1 gear and that is what I want… the car is $hit with out it … it drives like a damn mini van… it is slow and takes for ever to get to speed with out the gears …. A set of 4:10 to 1 or 4:11 to 1 would be a high gear that would consume gas …. So I AM GOING TO WORRY ABOUT IT!!!…. Are you suggesting that I reward Doge by buying their product again? I must have stupid written on my fire head!! I spit on my car every day … it is a disgrace

P.S. I never got cash back period!!! I do not know what you are talking about I put down $ 20,000.00 cash … the same amount that I will loss selling this …. the Irony 🙁

Alexander, I have another thought for you, instead of the Mustang why don’t you check out an 2008-09 Corvette. Lots of 09s still on the dealers lots with new lower prices, or find a nice used 08 with low miles as these are now going for cheap, well if you look for a good deal. I know you would be really happy with one of these, but make sure to get one with at least the 3LT package or maybe a Z06. They get great mileage and haul the freight. Do a little reseach and I think you would really have a great car. Tracy

Thanks Tracy … I think the whole point of this was that it ruined my new car experience…I wanted a new car ….. I looked at Corvette last summer and could have got a great deal, but that is not the point here …. I just want to be there when the plant closes LOL see how it feels when they are told “you have a sales issue”

If the workers have a problem contact Agint court Chrysler 416-321-2201 … I spit on your car every day

Alexander, Man I am truly sorry that you got the shaft, it happened to me and my wife back in 05 with one of the Ford dealers where I live, after two weeks of it bugging me I went to another dealer and found out all of the options were available that I wanted to order but dealer one lied and said they were not. Took car back recieved full refund and ordered car from other dealer, even saved $2500.00 and got more car/options then on the first one. Canada should come up with something to protect their buyers as buying a car is not cheap. Dodge lost you as a customer and GM or Ford well welcome your business. Maybe you could contact someone in your GOVT. and see if they could help, if thats a no go set up a web site and tell your story there, the web is a great place to voice yourself. Again I’m sorry for all that has happened and if you get the Vette you’ll really enjoy it. Take care Tracy

Alexander – Sorry to hear about your troubles, in all aspects. I’m sorry your dealer is not stepping up and handling the issue. I suggest you keep voicing your concerns, documenting (f you haven’t already) every conversation, and don’t take no for an answer. Assuming everything you have posted is true, I think you have a valid case. I state “assuming”, since I don’t have any first hand encounter with you or the situation.

Dodge is not alone in the sketchy dealer/service department. I can personally comment on similar bad experiences, with Lexus, Porsche, and Nissan. At the end of the day, its the responsbile person (auto person, in this case) who cares enough to handle your problem. There’s got to be one person at your dealer, or other local dealer who cares.

I hope you can report back with something positive, involving Dodge, rather than buying another car.

And for what its worth, I too wish Dodge would post up more responses to the comments from the posters. I don’t like seeing the mopar fans flaming each other, as so far everyone I read on this site has some good stuff to say.
