The Detroit Arsenal opened in 1940 after the U.S. Army and the Chrysler Corporation hired architect Albert Kahn to design a self-contained tank plant. Within the plant, Chrysler produced over 22,000 tanks during World War II. Even though the last tank rolled out of the plant in 1997, bullet proof parts are still made here, which turn into the rear axles of the current Ram Trucks.
