Open Forum: Calling All Questions…Ask Them Here! (updated 3/30 and 4/6)

OK. So let’s begin by thanking everyone for their past questions to this blog. We’ve done (you may not believe it, but it’s true) our best to get answers for you. There are a lot of things we just can’t talk about, unfortunately.

But that shouldn’t matter. We here at RLD feel like we owe you something better. So we’re going to start a running list of questions. Ask away! ***EVEN IF YOU ASKED ONE BEFORE, PLEASE RESUBMIT IT!*** We might not be able to answer you right now…but we will keep your question in the list until we can…with updates on the progress.

While we haven’t always done a great job of responding, we sometimes can come up with rock stars like Bob Frederick or Mike Accavitti who turn out to be the best in the business at getting you folks information where they can. So, again…ask away…we are definitely listening.

Submit any questions about Dodge or Chrysler LLC. in the comments below. And we’ll keep repeating your questions in future “Open Forum” posts until we can get you an answer.

UPDATE: (March 30) Your questions have all been received. This week, we will have them sorted by subject and reposted — both in the hope that we will address them in time…and to allow the RLD Community to help other users with answers to questions, or thoughts on similar questions. As you may have seen, several questions are extremely similar. We tried to answer a handful that were popping up time and time again with Mike Accavitti’s post here and Steve Bartoli’s post here. That said, please understand two important details with asking questions 1) We cannot answer every question. For questions concerning products you own and specific maintenance or care, please direct those questions to Customer Service .
2) As a manufacturer, it is often legally difficult to provide direct, concrete guidance on many issues. So the answers to some questions will be often slow to arrive or simply can’t be addressed. This DOES NOT mean your questions are without value to us. We learn a lot about what you want simply by what you are asking. So please take heart that even if a question is not answered, it is still a very important way of communicating your thoughts to us. And we thank you for all your feedback.

So hang tight, keep all these thoughts and comments coming and we will keep working to shed as much light on all the cool stuff we’ve got going on these days for you in the coming weeks and months.

(Update 4/6) The beginnings of the running list of Open Forum questions has been posted on the post above, click here to get to it. The list will grow and become more dynamic (links back to answers, related posts, etc.) in the days and weeks ahead. Thanks again for all your questions.

Why did you wait so long to reach out to us? Many of us custom ordered cars (Challenger for me)over the past year and posted thousands of questions/complaints/concerns with no response at all. A custom order should reflect that the customer is loyal and wanting to do business with you. But, dealers were dishonest and some dealers stole money from us and you did nothing to stop or correct these actions. So, I ask again, why reach out now?

and…why in the world did you tell all of us that ordered 2008 Challengers that the Hemi Orange would be exclusive to that year and then go back on your word? Maybe it was the dealers that lied to me? Then mess around with the production numbers! It’s just too much to deal with. It’ll take a miracle to get some of us back as customers…when you need us the most.

How about a modern (airbag equipped) Tuff-style steering wheel? Maybe part of an upgrade package which would include pedal dress ups, etc.

How about those classic lift-off fiberglass hoods (not sure if they would meet federal regulations nowadays), or at least the front pins to make it look like a race hood.

How about some OEM-quality rear-window louvers vice the scary E-bay ones?

How come I never see any Challengers on the road? I know they’re at dealers and it’s a hot car. I don’t get it…

I wanted a Challenger more than anything, but because the colors I wanted aren\’t being offered so I bought a 09 Ram Crew Cab. I keep hearing folks saying will Chrysler be around? 1- Why not let customers order factory direct online if they are a clean buyer with no trade and coordinate delivery with a local dealer. This would eliminate the dealers stealing customer orders before they get them.
2- How about opening up an accurate dealer search to customers s we can search for our car on lots vs trusting a dealer to find it. many current searches are hard to use and not global or accurate.
3- Please Allow Employee prices to be locked on orders, can Chyrsler do this to boost sales? It has stopped me from buying. lots are empty around me. I want options I want for the cost.
4- Have the stimulus go to buyers directly as a 5000 cash back on your taxes. Then we see where the money goes and you sell cars
5- offer more colors? it is only paint
6- advertise? why not? never see it in ads. Why dont you advertise your best product?
7- update the Dodge site. Classic is still missing. You cant even do a proper build with go wing spoiler as an option…Simple fix, whats the deal? Webmaster can add these in no time.

    Posted February 26, 2009 at 2:47 pm | Permalink

Sorry, last two times I posted, nothing showed up, so wanted to try a quick one liner and see if it worked.

    More questions:

Is a previous poster correct about your current color selectiones being off a bt from teh originall colors? He claimed your current hemi orange is closer to the old “vitamine c” orange of old….

When is plumb crazy gonna be available on the challenger?

Did you actally have a 1968 dodge charger in the studio when you “refreshed” the current car being called a charger?

Any chance you could get to two original challenger designers (of the concept) to help you figure out the charger for us?

I recently sent an e-mail to dodge asing about and commenting on, the re-designed 2010/2011 charger. My initials are CD, from Salem Oregon. Did anyone other than “marketing” actually read it?

Are there any muscle car owners employed by dodge?

I ask, beccause surely they would have told you the same thigns many of us have concerning a four door sedan and the name charger. As I recall, that’s the reason the current challenger design was picked, the other two possibilities looked nothing like the old cars, and you would have had even more angry people calling you.

how about having separate form within RLD where we can ask questions regarding engine and drive train modifications and have the engineers give us an honest answer as to the pros & cons of the mod. There are many after-market products and they make some incredible claims re horsepower/torque gains. It would be nice to have a Dodge engineer tells whether that would work, whether Dodge tried it but went with a different option and why.

If not maybe the can answer these questions regarding my 09 Challenger SRT8 manual 6 speed:
    1) Will the 6.1L Hemi perform better if I switch out the stock thermostat to a 180 Degree version? if not why not? How about with an after-market engine tuner

    2) Do they recommend an oil catch can be used?

3)Are there any better after-market spark-plugs that could increase horsepower?

    4) does Dodge have or are there any dust=free brake pads that they recommend for the Challenger.

my lists goes on but this is a start

Why where there more than 500 Challenger’s built for the Canadian Challenger SRT8 500 Edition?
Something about 700+ being built and sold.

REID BIGLAND told me so, the President of Chrysler Canada.

    1) Here is a fun question. How can Challenger fans get an autographed picture of Brian Nielander, Jeff Gale, Michael Castiglione and Alan Barrington? Dodge could make a lot of money selling posters\ and or pictures of the Fab Four!

    2) Would Dodge considering running TV ads that have a theme of helping out America by buying an American car? An advertising campaign with a patriotic theme showing the great products that you produce could go a long way in making you the people’s choice when it comes to a new car. Amongst the doom and gloom Dodge can be a shinning star. Get into your new Dodge and help bring America back to its greatness!

    3) Would Dodge consider letting customers order options that could be installed at the factory such as the authentic Dodge Accessories by Mopar; i.e T/A hood, Rear Go-Wing Spoiler, etc.

Thanks for the Challenger and all the dedication and hard work you have bestowed. I know that it must be challenging to work in an environment of job cuts and not knowing if the company is going to be in business a year from now. I believe in you so hang in there because the best is yet to come!

I was hoping someone can help me figure out a mystery car? Did Dodge every make a 2006 Charger SRT8 that had a special 40th Anniversary Dodge Charger package? I found for sale a 2006 Charger SRT8 that is bright silver and has every option available. This car is very strange in that it has badging that says it is a 40th anniversary Dodge Charger. It has the numbers 001 on the front and rear bumpers, a different type of rear spoiler and bright chrome plated wheels and other minor changes. Nobody on the Dodge Charger forums knows what this car is or where it came from. It’s located in Central Florida. Apparently it has been for most if not all of the time. This is a great site. Thank you for listening. Gary, 2007 Charger R/T R model.

I don’t know why any of you are asking questions because they never have answered our questions and they never will. They will just say we aren’t sure about that and we will let you know when you see the car sitting on the dealer’s lot. This is why Dodge’s sales have plummeted to almost nothing. The customer comes last and that doesn’t cut it in today’s world. This whole deal of only offering a few colors and options is just insane. You could change stripe patterns, grilles, etc. each year like you used to do in the 60’s and 70’s.

    Almost forgot,

Is there any way to get smaller wheels on the challenger (or any other car you sell)?

Like say 16 inch wheels with some taller sidewall tires. Sorry, my wife and I don’t think a muscle car looks good with itty bitty bicycle tires.

Yeah, I know, everyone wants to have racing tires, tuner tires etc etc etc. My wife would not be racing anyone, she would just like the car to not look like it just got out of the “tuner” garage.

I think all of these ideas would have worked 30 years ago. Unfortunately I dont see much of this happening. It seems like there are all these supplier issues, production holds, etc. I can only guess Chrysler needs to sell what is already built for revenue, which by they way is far and few Challengers. We all know how scarce the car is. If anyone in the know out there can verify if Brampton is making Challengers let us know. It does not look good. Certainly the classic should have been ready to order on the online Dodge site. It is wheels and stripes, big deal.

How long do you have to wait REDDOG? Don’t tell me that they don’t review this website daily or what is the point in having one. I love Dodge and have always purchased them, however, when you have to wait for a concerned dealer to answer the questions because they can’t take the time to, then that is pretty pathetic. Again, I may be bashing Dodge because I want them to understand that they have to listen to the customer. That is the whole “Lean Philosophy” that Toyota built its empire upon and Dodge still doesn’t seem to get it. I want Dodge to finally understand because I prefer their products, but they still don’t give people the options they want. Come on Dodge, prove me wrong and take the time to answer everyone’s question this week. Thanks in advance!

Why do you not offer a “spoiler delete” option on the Challenger SRT? Dodge offers a Go-Wing Spoiler as an accessory purchase, but the mounting holes are different from the standard equipment spoiler.

  • Polarbear
    Posted March 4, 2009 at 2:18 pm | Permalink

I concur with Pistol Grip’s observation regarding the lack of a spoiler delete option. In my view, not many people will likely want to buy a Go-Wing if they have to fill, drill and re-paint their new decklid. In these challenging economic times one might suppose that Dodge would be looking for ways to maximize income, such as by boosting the prospect for maximizing accessory sales, such as the Go-Wing. The spoiler delete option would seem to be relatively inexpensive as an SE trunklid could simply be installed at the factory on RTs and SRTs. Moreover, the upcoming ALB package on the RT would seem to indicate that installation of the Go-Wing can be accomplished at the factory. If this is true, one might assume that this option could be offered for the SRT or that a spoiler delete option is also feasible.

agree with you guys. There are very few Challengers to pick from and certainly not what potential buyers I know seem to want out of the Challenger. This blog alone shows that the Challenger is what people want to comment on. It is (or could be)the golden egg for Chrysler. It amazes me how little energy seems to show on the part of Dodge for this car. If the majority of buyers want the Classic styles / colors and packages, why not offer it???? If you read this thread and many others on this site, the demand seems clear. I also agree that we never see feedback from Chrysler on these comments. Are you there? Posts are not meant to seem negative, just honest. Clearly this car could have revenue for Chrysler if they do the right things and satisfy the customer demands. I see many items were addressed, so we are making progress (Pistol grip, R/T, etc.) but we have a more to go. The fact we cant find these cars on lots with classic packages, or desired choice of options (wing spoilers, classics stripes, crager style wheels, etc.)makes it a bit frustrating to potential buyers. Top that off with the fact you cant order the car and lock EPP pricing with options that you want. When I see equal numbers of Challengers to Chargers on the lots, then perhaps we will have choice available.
