Our SRT Dynamic Duo pointed their Challenger SRT8 South and arrived at Carolina Motor sports Park in Kershaw South Carolina at 7:30 am Monday morning. This beautiful racing facility started out life as a World War II fighter-training base where P51 Mustangs and P47 Thunderbolts once roared off the runway. Today the sounds of high-horsepower vehicles from all makes fill the air as the One Lap competitors have come to do battle.
The hot air temperatures and high humidity along with a challenging track layout took its toll on some of the entries. Those who relied on aftermarket turbochargers and electronics to make power found the conditions tough on equipment. The carnage from this event left one competitor with blown turbo seals due to inadequate cooling and thus result in a DNF score. However, Erich and Adam reported their 392 HEMI® Challenger is running very strong and is not affected by the extreme heat. The coolant temp is staying at a solid 230-degree Fahrenheit and the car is running. On the back straight they hit a 125 mph but glazed the brakes backing the speed down to 105 mph. Adam slid the Challenger through the tight curves along the course and had a great lap time. Our guys finished 2ND in the SSGT2 Big Bore class and 13th overall during this stage.
The event wrapped up at 2:30 pm and Erich and Adam packed-up their gear and double-timed it over 120 miles to the next stop.
The next was at the BMW Performance Center in Greer South Carolina. This facility has a mini road course which is like a high speed autocross track, but ditches instead of cones. Its very challenging for the novice entrant as its easy to get out of shape if youre not careful. Erich once again set the air pressure in the tires and wheeled the Challenger around the track with the grace of an orchestra conductor but with the brutal punch of a heavy weight boxer. This placed our guys in 12th overall and 3rd in class during this stop.
They left the Palmetto state at 6:30 pm last night and drove 500 miles to the Daytona International Speedway. They have a 9:00 am date on the high banks of this fabled race track. Overall for the event they moved up from 26th to 19th in points and are tied for 2nd in highly competitive SSGT2 Big Bore class with 205 points. Luckily for Erich and Adam, the Challenger SRT8 shines on the road as much as the track and thankfully they have a mutual respect for 80s rock which make those long drives even better!
