From the Archives: First Dodge Vehicle Hits The Streets

In 1914, noted engine manufacturers John and Horace Dodge decided to distance themselves from their supplier roots and produce their own brand of automobile. On November 14, 1914, after eleven months of feverish preparation, the first Dodge Model 30 rolled off the assembly line at the Hamtramck, Michigan plant. Introduced as a more upscale version of the Ford Model T, the Dodge Model 30 quickly gained popularity for its full-steel body construction and sliding-gear transmission, features which were considered somewhat of a luxury at the time.
