Since the release of the 2011 Dodge Avenger, the motoring press have awarded it numerous accolades and consumers have embraced the great changes our engineers and design folks have implemented. With an all new interior and major suspension overhaul, the Avenger is a great mid-sized sedan that is well balanced and fun to drive.
However, the really big news is the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 that pushes out 283 horsepower. When mated to the six-speed automatic transmission, the Avenger becomes a pocket rocket with 0-60 times in the mid six-second range and quarter-mile ETs in the mid-14 second zone. Folks, were talking performance that is on par with many muscle cars from the 1960s and 70s. But unlike these iconic high-octane, fuel guzzling behemoths, the 2011 Avenger also pulls down an impressive EPA estimated 29 mpg on the highway!
Whats just as cool is the sound of the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6! Recently, our friends at Car & Driver had a chance to record the exhaust note from the Avenger and even we were impressed with its throaty and aggressive tone. Now we cant wait to shock a few unsuspecting drivers next time we are sitting at a traffic light!

Ok. I like that! Almost sounds Italian, a little less silencing and you’d be hard pressed to say that was from an American car.
Jeff’s right. it does sound very european performance.. I like it!
Uh, no. Obviously these people haven’t heard the exhaust note of a 426 Hemi, or vintage 440. Nothing compares, or ever will.
It is Italian, Fiat owns Chrysler now.
Funny some people say it sounds Italian ..BUT the Pentastar engine was in development even before they had anything to do with Fiat !!
All 4 and 6 cyl cars could be said to sound European as that most imports have 4 or 6 shooters…Funny Imports with V-8’s are said to sound American
@ERIC,
You are 100% correct,right on brother !
Great but no manual trans for the USA. Let me have the manual and I will order one today!
Sounds good, v6 not really for me but those are some really impressive power numbers for a sixer. Dodge line up is getting better and better just hope fiat doesn’t screw it up! Although I don’t think they will. Fiat has started releasing rights to older stuff so company’s can finally start offering repro body parts for some of the old mopars we love, wich will build more loyalty for the new stuff. I say the new avenger is a step in the right direction! Keep rolling out the new stuff dodge its good stuff just stay away from building an r/t minivan PLEASE!
I had a chance to check out a new Avenger recently and came away impressed. The exterior changes are subtle, to be sure, but they all ad up to a much more coherent appearance – very ‘feline’ if you can believe it.
Inside the car, however, it was another story. The fit, finish, materials, and styling are all outstanding. The seats are far more comfortable too.
Looking forward to a test drive when the red leather interior shows up!
