Dodge high-octane excitement invaded sin city this past weekend at the ninth annual Moparty at the Strip (MATS) event. Hundreds of participants across the US and Canada along with Australia and Europe made the trek to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The event kicked off on Thursday with the traditional cruise from Scottsdale Arizona to Vegas. Here, almost a hundred enthusiasts in everything from vintage HEMI® muscle cars to Vipers saddled up and headed out along across the desert for their own Vanishing Point experience. Midway along the road trip, the cruisers rolled into Martin Swanty Dodge along historic Route 66 for refreshments. Other MATS cruises included jumping off points in Utah and Los Angeles. Our Friends from Street Legal TV even got in on the action with the 2007 Magnum R/T. Even though they had a late start, their HEMI powered Dodge quickly made up time.
For three days attendees got to check out some vintage and rare 1950s, 60s and 70s classics. The show field was packed with DeSotos, Lancers, Chargers, Challengers, Super Bees, Coronets, Daytonas, Darts and Demons along with tons of modern muscle such as our new 2011 Challenger SRT8 392 and Charger R/T. A manufacturers midway along with rows of swap meet vendors had just about everything youd need for your restoration project. Those enthusiasts looking to burn some rubber and assault the quarter-mile, had many classes to choose from. Everything from FWD Sport Compact to Modern HEMI® to even A/FX and Super Stock had the staging lanes packed with competitors ready to take down the driver in the next lane. For those who like to turn left and right, Hotchkis Suspensions and their team of talented drivers and their specially prepared 1970 Challenger T/A thrilled over 500 riders on the twisting autocross course setup in the pits.
With hundreds of show cars, race cars along with drag racing royalty in attendance, the weekend just flew by. Fear not if you missed this years MATS, we captured lots of great content and will posting more cool videos and images soon that include a great interviews with the Bosses wife, a drag racing hero and even one of the Original Ramchargers team members.
